42nd ANNUAL HEALTH FAIR AMERICAN BANK CENTER CONVENTION CENTER AUGUST 25TH 8:00AM - 3:00PM
Event Details: The 42nd Annual Health Fair, sponsored by the Nueces County Medical Society and Alliance, will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 from 8am to 3pm at the American Bank Center Convention Center.
There will be over 160 booths for the public to visit, including a Children's Area, sponsored by Driscoll Children's Health Plan, focusing on wellness programs, such as nutrition and immunizations, and providing an opportunity for parents to sign up for health insurance programs, such as Medicaid and CHIP. A Cancer Section providing various screenings and information specific to the disease and treatment of cancer will be available and the American Heart Association will offer training in CPR. Students and student athletes can receive school physicals, at no charge. The public has the opportunity to receive a variety of tests including glucose, cholesterol, vision, glaucoma, and breast screens - all at no cost.
As in the past, the Medical Society is providing free breast screening exams. Physician members of the Society, as well as many nurse and clerical volunteers, are giving their time to offer this community service. There were over 200 breast exams done during the Health Fair 2006. Those whose breast exams were diagnosed as abnormal were provided coupons for discount mammograms and were instructed to follow up with their private physician. If they did not have one, a list of primary care physicians and gynecologists was provided to them.
The Nueces County Medical Society and Allliance have organized and sponsored the Health Fair as a public service for the citizens of Corpus Christi and surrounding areas for 41 years to promote a healthy lifestyle. Each year, thousands of people attend the Health Fair to take advantage of the free education, training, entertainment, and health screenings provided by the many exhibitors.
The Medical Society, founded in 1904, is a professional association of over 750 physicians whose primary goal is to promote the health of this community. Over 150 physicians' spouses make up the Alliance, who have joined to care for the community.
The Medical Society invites the public to the 42nd Annual Health Fair on Saturday, August 25, 2007 from 8am to 3pm at the American Bank Center Convention Center.
