The Corpus Christi Coastal Classic and the Corpus Christi CVB is pleased to announce a stellar field for its second annual event. We are excited to announce for the city of Corpus Christi Thanksgiving weekend Texas Christian University, St. Louis University, Mississippi State University, Bradley University, Mississippi Valley State University, Radford University, North Carolina A&T State University, will join with Texas A&M - Corpus Christi for the 2014 Corpus Christi Coastal Classic.
TCU returns four out of its five starters, including honorable mention All-Big 12 honoree Kyan Anderson who led the Frogs in scoring last season, averaging 17 points and 4.5 assists per game. Also returning is second-leading scorer Amric Fields who only saw action in 18 games a year ago because of injury, but made his presence felt, averaging 13 points a contest. Sophomore Karviar Shepherd returns to man the middle for the Purple and White after tallying 13 double-digits games in 2013-14. Shepherd recorded four double-doubles a year ago, including three during league play, and should see that number go up with another season under his belt.
Saint Louis men’s basketball advanced to and won a game in the NCAA Tournament each of the last three seasons. The 2014-15 squad will have a much different look as SLU graduated five seniors (all starters), but expectations will still be high for the Billikens.
Among those returning for Saint Louis is junior guard Austin McBroom, SLU’s leading returning scorer after averaging 7.3 points per game a season ago. Senior forward Grandy Glaze was third on the squad with 4.5 rebounds per game. Senior center John Manning was second on the team last year in blocked shots (33). Sophomore guardMike Crawford and sophomore forwards Reggie Agbeko and Tanner Lancona are expected to contribute even more this season.
Mississippi State returns all five starters from last year’s team that increased its win total by four games from the previous season. Included in that mix are junior guard Craig Sword and junior forward Gavin Ware, who paced the Bulldogs with 13.7 points and 7.2 rebounds, respectively. Also back for his third year under Coach Rick Ray is Fred Thomas, who led MSU with 46 made 3-pointers to give him 87 for his career.
Bradley returns seven lettermen, including three starters and four of the top six scorers, from the 2013-14 squad that finished 12-20 overall and seventh in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 7-11 league record. As Geno Ford prepares for his fourth year at the helm of the Bradley program, he also welcomes a highly-touted recruiting class that features top-100 ranked high school recruit Josh Cunningham, as well as NJCAA Division I All-America point guard Tramique Sutherland. The Braves will be making their first trip to the Lone Star State since reaching the championship game of the 2007 South Padre Island Invitational, where the Braves knocked off Iowa (67-56) in the semifinals before a 95-86 loss to Vanderbilt in the title game.
Each team will play four games-the first two at campus sites and the final two rounds at the beautiful American Bank Center in Corpus Christi on November 28th & 29th.
