The International Cat Association brings one of the largest cat exhibitions in the US to Corpus Christi. TICA is the world’s largest genetic cat registry and at 12 Noon Saturday, Sept. 2 will announce a new partnership with Mars Veterinary in the first ever “State of the American Cat” a genetic analysis of the cats of the United States. “The most beautiful, unique and interesting cats are registered with TICA. “Collaborating with TICA will allow us to know and do more to improve the health of call cats” remarked Catherine Lytle, DVM of Mars Veterinary Innovations Group.
TICA is the #1 registry for Household Pet cats in the world. Household Pet cats are any cat of no breed, commonly referred to as domestic shorthairs or domestic longhairs. In TICA, Household Pet Cats compete for the same titles and international honors as pedigreed cats. TICA has partnered with The Cattery of Corpus Christi to raise awareness about the cats in need of permanent homes in Corpus Christi. The Cattery will have cats available for adoption at the show, some are entered in competition. People can go home with a perfect companion and a TICA champion! The International Cat Association Show at the ABC Center in Corpus Christi Sept. 2 & 3, 2017 9 AM to 5 PM each day. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Tickets are currently on sale through ticketmaster.com or at the ABC Center: $8 adult, $6 children(5-10), Seniors/Military $7, Family 4 pack $20.
“TICA has members in over one hundred countries around the world representing people who love every aspect of the cat”, noted TICA President and Corpus Christi native Fate Mays. In excess of three hundred cats are registered to compete at the ABC Center. The event will also feature an awards banquet to recognize the pinnacle of the feline perfection. Mr. Mays explained, “This year in excess of seven thousand cats and kittens competed in TICA shows in Asia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East. I’m proud to recognize the hard work of their owners and the beauty of these cats.”
Judges from five continents will examine competitors over the course of two days from the household pet category as well as from the sixty three breeds recognized by TICA ranging from the perpetually popular Persian, to the slinky Siamese, the tiger lookalike Toyger and more. When show manager and Director for TICA’s South Central Region, Vicki Jo Harrison, who’s judged tens of thousands of cats around the world was asked how the top cat will be chosen among the hundreds of entries she said, “Each breed has a standard of perfection and the judge’s job is to compare the cat before them to the ideal described in the standard and find that extra aspect of magic that sets the cat apart from all the others. Every cat owner knows it.”
Judges don’t get to select the cutest, fuzziest or favorite but visitors to the show can. Each visitor receives a ballot and they get to vote for their favorite cat to receive a special prize. “People’s Choice Favorite Cat” will be presented on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 3:30 PM.
